Charlie's Epic Initiation

A Journey to the North Cascades

Meet Charlie - Our Adventure Van

May 22, 2023 marked the beginning of an epic journey with Charlie, our beloved van! We named her in memory of Kristen’s Dad, Charles, whose passing was a catalyst for choosing this life path in the first place. Picking up Charlie felt like reuniting with an old friend, and we were brimming with anticipation. We traveled light, eager to adapt to our new van life and discover what was truly essential.

Chapter 1: The Van Life Begins

We plunged into our 'van-cation' with gusto, taking a week off to immerse ourselves in Charlie's cozy confines. It wasn't just about moving in; it was about adopting a whole new lifestyle. Charlie swiftly transformed into our rolling home, a hub of endless adventures.

Chapter 2: First Stop - A Wagu Wonderland

Our first night was blissfully spent on a Wagu farm in northern Washington, a gem we discovered through Harvest Host. Waking up to the soothing sounds of cattle and enjoying coffee in the great outdoors - it's a van life experience you don’t want to miss!

Chapter 3: The Enchantment of North Cascades National Park

Charlie then whisked us away to the breathtaking North Cascades National Park. Our campsite? A secluded slice of heaven amid the grandeur of glacial mountains. The crisp air and profound quietude were soul-reviving - a private dance with nature's splendor.

Chapter 4: Hiking the Hidden Trails

A top tip from our North Cascades adventures: always start at the Ranger Station. Thanks to Ranger Debra's guidance, we embarked on the Thunder Creek Trail, a stunning 6.34-mile trek. A picturesque bridge over a waterfall was the perfect snack spot. Ranger Debra, you're the real MVP!

Chapter 5: Yoga and Watercolor in the Wild

Kristen wasn't ready to leave her passion for art and fitness in Santa Monica. So, watercolor and yoga in the forest became her van life staples. Engrossed in these activities amidst the trees, she found a profound connection with nature and inner peace.

Chapter 6: Learning the Limitations

One of our favorite hikes, a combo of Ross Dam Trail and Beaver Trail, was yet another of Ranger Debra's recommendations. The first waterfall was a quick find, and the dam offered jaw-dropping vistas. Beaver trail's enchanting mossy paths even treated us to a deer family sighting. However, we learned Laurence's hiking limit here - 6 miles was his max. Now, we tailor our hikes to keep everyone happy and comfortable.

The Journey Continues

Our initiation into van life with Charlie in the North Cascades was nothing short of magical. We're certain we'll return to these trails and tales. Diving headfirst into full-time van life was a leap of faith, but we believe boldly embracing the unknown will lead to extraordinary adventures. After all, fortune does favor the bold.
